Exclusive Villa Estate
The new General Manager for Samujana Villas, an exclusive estate on Koh Samui, had initially spent time overseeing the building works. As the 20+ villas were completed he subsequently was tasked with recruiting and managing an executive team capable of delivering the very high standards expected by the villa owners.
The high expectations of the private owners as well as those renting the villas meant that he was dealing with a large number of ‘clients’ at any one time. Consequently, a lot of time was taken up with the detail of running this boutique development and the day to day challenges and issues,. As a result, not enough time was being spent on leadership of the newly formed team, the business strategy and managing this large number of clients effectively.
How did we help?
We worked with the General Manager through a series of long distance telephone coaching calls, focusing on how to successfully manage the expectations of the villa owners, as well as how to build an effective team and consciously develop the values and culture at Samujana.
- We devised a strategy for managing the villa owners
- We helped the General Manager with his team, giving him specific management tools.
- We looked at time management which enabled him to free up his time, in order to focus on what was important in the long term rather than ‘urgent’ in the short term.
The subsequent feedback from the villa owners has been encouraging, relationships have improved significantly and there is now much better communication between them and the General Manager.
The team is still relatively new, but it is more cohesive and the individuals are more accountable, which enables the General Manager to spend more time on the business strategy rather than having to be involved in the day to day issues.
